Ted A. Donner


Ted Donner (Attorney) started his legal studies at Loyola University Chicago School of Law in 1987 after a ten-year stint as the box office manager of The Second City in Chicago. His professional experience since then includes work as a law clerk for Corboy & Demetrio, P.C., a summer internship at Welsh & Katz, Ltd., and work as an associate with Rock, Fusco, Reynolds & Garvey, Ltd.  Before opening Donner & Company Law Offices LLC, he was an Associate and then Of Counsel to the litigation practice group at Altheimer & Gray, where his practice was concentrated in insurance coverage, antitrust and general commercial litigation.


In addition to a number of law review and bar journal articles, Ted is the author of two national treatises for Thomson West (Reuters), the Attorneys Practice Guide to Negotiations (with the Honorable Brian Crowe) and Jury Selection: Strategy & Science (with Richard Gabriel).


Ted is the President of the DuPage County Bar Association for 2016-17. He has been a member of the Executive Committee and Board of Directors for DCBA since 2013 and served as a member of the Board of Directors for the DuPage County Bar Foundation for four years (2011-15). He chaired the Lawyer Referral Service Committee in 2013-14 and the DCBA Planning Committee in 2014-15. Prior to his election in 2013, he served for many years as a member of the DCBA's Editorial Board, as Editor-in-Chief of the DCBA Brief in 2007-08 and in 2010-11, as Associate Editor in 2006-07 and 2009-10, and as Assistant Editor in 2012-13. He was awarded the DCBA's Directors Award in 2008 and, in May, 2011, was named the DCBA's "Lawyer of the Year."


Ted has an A.V. Rating from Martindale-Hubbell (2005-15) and was first named as an "Illinois Super Lawyer" in 2005 (most recently in 2015).  He is also rated "superb" by Avvo.


He received his bachelors degree from Roosevelt University in Chicago and is a 1990 graduate of Loyola. At Loyola, he served as editor of the law school newspaper, Blackacre, and as a member of the Editorial Board of the Loyola University Chicago School of Law Consumer Law Reporter. He was awarded Best Oralist in the school’s intra-school moot court competition, received a fellowship for work with the American Judicature Society and received American Jurisprudence Awards in Professional Responsibility and Criminal Procedure, among other honors. He has remained active with the law school ever since, as an Adjunct Professor teaching classes for over 25 years in advanced trial practice, pretrial litigation, negotiations, client counseling, appellate advocacy, and jury selection. He has served as a team coach for a number of Loyola's moot court teams including the ABA Negotiation Competition Team and the Chicago Bar Association Moot Court Team. In 1999, Loyola's Moot Court Honors Board named him as the guest of honor for their annual dinner, recognizing him for his "years of outstanding dedication and support" to the law school.


Ted has also presented seminars on such topics as jury selection, insurance coverage, and legal negotiations for a number of organizations, including the Illinois Attorney Generals' Office, the Illinois Paralegal Association, the American Society of Trial Consultants, National Business Institute, Lohrman, the National Restaurant Association, and the DuPage County Bar Association.


He is a subject of biographical record in Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in the World, and Who’s Who in the Law. He is also a member of the Alpha Sigma Nu National Jesuit Honor Society, the American Bar Association, the American Bar Foundation, the American Society of Trial Consultants Foundation, SCRIBES (The American Society of Writers on Legal Subjects), and the Illinois Bar Association.
